welcome to Mobile Hospital today we're talking about five things you want to pay attention to when buying a used iphone used iphones can be a great deal if you're on a tighter budget but still want to pick one up for yourself you can actually end up knocking off a couple of hundred dollars from the original price going to use route and if you want to buy an older device that's been discontinued that's basically the only route that you can take since you probably don't want to get hustled in the process here's a couple of things to pay attention to.

number one pretty basic but still needs to be mentioned that that's checking if you have an icloud lock on your device if the previous owner didn't log out of their account you're going to have a problem logging into your account right because if you want to log out you actually need to type in your password and since you don't have the password of that other person then you won't be able to log into your account and it's a whole mess and we don't want a mess you're gonna need wi-fi for this one so maybe hotspot your old device or try to find a local hotspot that's available near you okay there's two different routes we can go with this if when turning on your phone for the first time you'll read it with a hello screen this is just a couple of steps you need to go through to make sure everything is fine and dandy so let's jump into my phone i'm going to show you right now so here we want to choose our language as well as our location i'm in serbia right now so i'm going to choose serbia make sense just go through all these steps one by one you don't have to do anything right now you can basically set it up later but just go through all these steps once you reach the screen here you'll know if the phone is locked if you're able to punch in your email it's all good second option is when you turn on your device it's actually already set up like this one is right now you want to jump into settings and right at the top here you'll see there's an icloud account on it at this point you want to tell the seller to turn off find my and remove their account from the phone if you see the option that just says sign in to your icloud there's no account there it means the phone is clean you're all safe you can start using it.

number two is checking your emei and serial number every iphone has a serial number that's unique to that exact device and you can find that serial number inside the phone itself as well as on the phone's box so you want to make sure those numbers are actually the same the one on the box and the one that's actually tied to the device itself the way you check your emei and serial numbers is again by jumping into settings first so once you're in settings you want to go to general and about in here you have all the info you need first we're going to copy the serial number which is this number right here just hold it down and go to copy now we're going to go to our browser and type in i unlock her there's a lot of websites that do this but i like to use this one for some reason so we're gonna type in i unlock her in safari just paste your serial number here and all this information is gonna pop up do you have apple care warranty your purchase and expiration date so you're gonna see how old the phone is if the seller is saying the phone is old six months and this pops up and tells you the phone is actually two years old you might want to stay away from it it also tells you if it's refurbished or replacement device and all that stuff so just good to know and again you want to check that emei and serial number and compared to the ones on the box of the device.

number three is checking the face id is working because that's something that kind of dies pretty often on iphones for some reason usually after an update stuff like that also if there's a batch screen replacement on it face id probably won't work as well so you want to check that just to make sure go to settings and once you're there navigate to face id and passcode then go to setup face id and just start the setup process for a couple of set of seconds just to make sure it's working correctly you don't have to set up your face completely but just make sure it's working .

number four be the check your display in two different ways for that matter first you want to check if you can turn on true tone because if there's been a screen replacement done in a third-party shop by a third-party screen it's not original from apple truton probably won't work so why not check it the way you do this is well wouldn't you guess by going in the settings once you're there go to display and brightness and check if you can turn on true tone here the other thing when it comes to screens is you want to check out if it's working properly if there's any dead pixels or burning or something like that so we're going to download an app quickly it's going to help us do that we're just going to go to the app store and type in screen test and download the app once you open an app you'll see a lot of different options here so just click through all of them and make sure there's no burning dead pixels or anything similar for example when you open this white background you want to make sure there's no spots or yellow stains or dark areas or differences in brightness now you're going to need to be logged into your icloud and have access to wi-fi to be able to download an app so if you're just too chill to do that on the spot you don't have to download the app at least make sure to check the screen to the best of your ability the same way you would with that app so you just want to click around make sure the screen responds to the touch you can take a black photo or a white photo and check the screen that way as well without downloading the app using the app is a great way to do it but like i said since you need to log in and use wi-fi and all that stuff you can just check it for yourself.

number five is the check battery health navigate the settings battery and then battery health and check your maximum battery capacity since it is a used phone it probably won't be at 100 battery health but everything above 84 or 85 is just fine because you want to have enough juice to last you an extended period of time so if you pick up an iphone whose battery health is at 72 and you want to use it for the next two years that battery is not gonna last you a long time you're gonna have to replace it or you're just gonna have to charge it constantly because all batteries are great over time so the higher that percentage is the better if you're able to find one in the 90s that's great now that battery percentage indicator isn't 100 correct in all cases and it doesn't really work the way apple advertises it and it's not as important as you might think it is but still why risk it check it make sure it's above that 84 85 uh threshold and with that you're all set .
